Gold-Filled Content and Value Calculator
Calculate theoretical fine-gold content from a documented layer fraction, layer karat and eligible metal weight. Enter your own price to explore an illustrative metal value.

Start with a documented fraction
A fraction such as 1/20 describes the mass of the bonded gold-alloy layer relative to the applicable metal weight. It does not mean that 5% of the whole piece is pure gold.
Apply the layer karat
Multiply layer mass by karat divided by 24 to estimate fine-gold mass. For 20 g at 1/20 and 14K, the layer is 1 g and theoretical fine gold is about 0.5833 g.
Remove unrelated weight from the input
Stones, springs and components that do not share the stated construction must not be counted as gold-filled stock. Unknown or worn pieces need physical assessment.
Keep theoretical value separate from payout
The price is supplied by you in USD per fine-gold gram. Refining loss, fees, lot size and buyer terms can make an actual offer different; the calculation is not an appraisal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does 1/20 14K mean solid 14K?
No. The fraction applies to the bonded layer; the layer itself is a 14/24 gold alloy.
Does this work for electroplating?
No. An unknown plated thickness cannot be converted using a gold-filled weight fraction.
Is the price live?
No. Enter a current, independently checked price or an illustrative scenario. The example price is not a market quote.
Can it measure a worn item?
No. Wear can remove the layer. The result is theoretical under the stated original construction assumptions.
